More info
Sow in a nursery (indoors or in a heated greenhouse) from mid-April, in individual pots, 2–3 cm deep. Maintain a temperature of 18–20 °C for quick germination. Transplant into open ground: from mid-May, once the risk of frost has passed (around the “Ice Saints”). Direct sowing: possible from mid-May outdoors, once the soil has sufficiently warmed (minimum 12 °C). Space plants at least 1.2 to 1.5 m apart in all directions (or more, depending on the variety), as squashes develop very large foliage and need good airflow. Apply mulch (straw, dried grass clippings, etc.) around the plants to reduce evaporation and weeds, and water regularly at the base to keep the soil moist.Harvest from September onward.
