✅ Ideal storage conditions
Store your seeds in a place that is:
-
Dry
-
Cool, ideally around 10 °C
-
Dark
-
And stable in temperature
💡 The cooler, the better. But finding a space that’s both dry and cool can be a challenge.
🚫 Places to avoid
Some common storage spots are not suitable:
-
Garden sheds: too much temperature fluctuation
-
Cellars or refrigerators: too humid
👉 Try to find a cool room in your house, away from sunlight.
Also watch out for rodents — mice love seeds!
⏳ Not all seeds last the same
Some species last longer than others under similar conditions:
-
Parsnip seeds have a short shelf life
-
Tomato seeds can stay viable for years
Shelf life depends on:
-
The initial quality (harvesting, drying, selection)
-
The storage conditions over time
🧪 Cycle en Terre's quality guarantee
At Cycle en Terre, quality comes first:
-
Every seed lot is tested annually using ISTA protocols
-
If germination quality drops, the lot is withdrawn from sale
💨 Humidity: the silent threat
Be careful not to store humid seeds in airtight containers. That can lead to mold and poor germination.
Our tips:
-
If your seeds are completely dry, use an airtight container
-
If you’re unsure, opt for a breathable bag or envelope
Some people use silica gel to keep humidity very low. We haven’t fully studied this method yet, but we’ll let you know once we find solid information.
🗂️ Smart storage tips
-
Open your seed packets from the bottom, so you don’t damage the lot info
-
Close them with a paperclip, folding the open side
-
Store packets upright, so you can easily read species and varieties
